This year stainless steel continues its migration from the professional world into the home space. While initially making its presence known in items such as ranges and a few smaller appliances like toasters, you can now have virtually every appliance and accessory in sleek, modern stainless steel. The clean feel of stainless contrasts nicely with warm wood colored cabinetry and goes well with the newer metallic colored pallets coming into style in the kitchen market today. Some with an "island" in their kitchen are switching to a functional "butcher's block" surface. This grants kitchen workers an extra working space to perform various food preparation tasks while adding a touch of style. Butcher blocks come in a large variety of hardwoods, so finding one that will go with the look of your kitchen shouldn't be too difficult. For those without an island, you may opt for a countertop butcher's block. If you go this route, make certain that you do not put the block on a counter space near the sink to avoid water damage.

Microwaves are becoming more practical and easy to use. By this time, most everyone has a microwave, and most everyone knows that they would not use a microwave to cook a fine steak dinner. Super-size me! Another popular trend for those with the available kitchen space is to upgrade their equipment to near professional grade gear. For example, you may move from a four-burner stove to a six-burner one, from a standard top-and-bottom refrigerator/freezer to a much wider side-by-side model, or even upgrading smaller kitchen appliances such as toasters and blenders to higher capacity stainless steel models.

Other up and comers: large drawer-style refrigerators, beverage chillers, hanging pot racks, decorative wall moldings, and various other specialty items are on the market and plentiful. With so many choices available the modern kitchen can be built with maximum flow, functionality, and finesse and be an enjoyable warm place for your family.
